Dr. Ross has taught at the University of Texas at Tyler since completing a PhD at the University of Texas at Austin, where the passion for watching students come alive intellectually was first discovered. In 2011, Dr. Ross received the UT System Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award, & two years later was honored to be selected as one of only 12 Founding Fellows of the University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers—chosen from among more than 20,000 faculty members across the system. This Academy is an active & productive body that has published 2 books on teaching & hosts annual system-wide events supporting excellence in college instruction.
Dr. Ross's first book explored the education of the Romantic poets, & current work builds on that foundation—applying what has been learned about how these writers were trained to develop new approaches to reading & teaching their poetry. Dr. Ross also has a strong record of university service, having been elected President of the UT Tyler Faculty Senate & Chair of the UT System Faculty Advisory Council. In each of these roles, the focus has been on fostering open, trusting relationships between faculty & administration.
Sponsored by the UT Tyler College of Arts & Sciences & with the energetic help of student producers, Dr. Ross just launched the 3rd season of the podcast "Ask Dr. Ross." With this project, the team endeavors to tell the story of the enduring value that universities offer young people, their families, & the nation.
